La Paz is calling once again – it’s time to dig out the oxygen masks and climbing gear and take that long and winding road up through The Andes…
THE STRONGEST VS. JORGE WILSTERMANN
(8.00pm)
Of all the South American sides, these two have a particular place in my heart and have featured in some of the most insane matches over the years – when they meet too, it’s rarely a dull encounter!
Eight games into this Clausura campaign, its Wilstermann who have the slight edge in form having harvested an impressive 20 points from a potential 24 compared to The Strongest’s total of 14 points from the same amount of games.
Whilst Jorge may have the form advantage, nobody can deny the hosts their own advantage; sitting around 12,000 feet above sea level, their home grounds in La Paz are as big an asset as a club could hope to have and has been the undoing of many big sides travelling to the Bolivian capital.
But, Wilstermann are wily old foxes and tend to cope relatively well on their many travels to play both The Strongest and city ricmvals Bolivar; of the last 12 H2H’s in La Paz, Jorge have netted in 10 having done so in 100% of their 5 most recent visits!
Another common trend I’ve noticed in recent years is the number of games that have ended with 2-1 or 1-2 scorelines – 7 of the last 17 H2H’s and a whopping 5 of the last 6 in La Paz have all ended with the above scoreline!
This fixture is usually a cracker but comes with a safety warning that an early red could (and often does) dictate the outcome…welcome to Bolivian football.
