MONDAY night was all about Man City as they edged out Leicester and on Tuesday it’s Liverpool’s turn to be in the spotlight.
City just need to beat Brighton away on Sunday to win a thrilling title race and I can’t see them slipping up. At the start of the season I tipped a City/Pool one-two and that looks likely to come up.
Liverpool will still have hope but first of all they need to attempt to achieve a Champions League miracle.
After a first-leg 3-0 defeat at Barcelona I gave Jurgen Klopp’s side a 10 per cent chance of making the Final but without Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino I’d say it’s around one per cent.
Barcelona will be aiming to notch an away goal which means Liverpool would need five and without two of their three main strikers that’s almost impossible. I’ve posted a Liverpool v Barcelona preview.
Elsewhere on Tuesday it’s all about the Scottish League play-offs and I’m taking a chance on three away sides not to lose their first legs away from home.
Best bets could be Queen of the South at Montrose. Queens finished second bottom of the Championship after a horror run to the end of the season culminating in a 3-0 home defeat to Partick Thistle.
The Queens board reacted by sacking Gary Naysmith and tasking former boss Allan Johnston with the job of saving their skins. “Magic” is boosted by the availability of Stephen Dobbie who returned against Thistle but didn’t look 100 per cent match fit.
Dobbie should be in better shape and it’s remarkable the Championship Player of the Year and a striker with 40 goals this season could be in side relegated.
Montrose are tough to beat but finished 19 points off the pace so Queens should come through this tie if they can find their form. They are 17-10 with Betway but on an accumulator I’m having Queens not to lose at 4-9 with bet365.
Dobbie is 13-5 with Betway to score first and 10-11 to net at any time.
The Premiership quarter-final play-off sees Inverness travel to Ayr after edging above them at the weekend. ICT finished the season strongly and will be confident about coming through the tie having beaten Ayr three times this season with one draw.
John Robertson’s men won both visits to Ayr – including one last month – and are 9-5 at bet365 to make it a hat-trick of wins at Somerset. Again I’m taking them not to lose on the treble at 11-20.
Finally add Clyde to avoid defeat at Edinburgh. Clyde did well to keep going after being docked four points for fielding an ineligible player – a defender they recalled from Clydebank of all clubs – and took the title race t the final day before going down to Cowdenbeath.
They finished seven points clear of City and like Inverness won both meetings away from home. In fact in six visits to the capital club they’ve won five and drawn one. Clyde are 17-10 at BetVictor to win and 8-15 at Betway not to lose.
Clyde also have a top-class striker who could make a difference. David Goodwillie has 21 goals this season but I don’t see any scorer prices yet.
Last night my Jamie Vardy to score Super Single cost me 1pt and a lack of goals at the Etihad downed the double.
Well done to all the winners including Greg with his over 3.5 goals Scottish Reserve League double.
