Tottenham v Chelsea Betting: Penalty Special With Paddy Power
Tottenham v Chelsea – Thursday 22nd December (Sky Sports 1, 8pm)
London rivals Tottenham and Chelsea do battle on Thursday in a Christmas cracker at White Hart Lane. Spurs are currently in third place, two points ahead of Chelsea who are in fourth, which means both teams will be gunning for a win in order to keep in tow with the dominant Manchester clubs at the top of the table. Paddy Power have handed Harry Redknapp’s odds of 13/8 for their eighth league win in nine games, while Chelsea are also available at 13/8 to come away with the three points, with a draw priced at 12/5
At the weekend Tottenham got back to winning ways with a narrow victory at home to Sunderland, while Chelsea’s recent revival was halted at Wigan after a rare Petr Cech error saw them drop two points. Neither side can afford to lose ground, especially after the Manchester clubs recorded convincing victories on Wednesday to extend their lead over the London clubs at the top of the table.
Since they were pummelled 5-1 in their opening home match of the season Spurs have strung together six straight wins at White Hart Lane, including wins against Liverpool and Arsenal. In addition they have hit the back of the net in every league home game so far. Spurs also have a decent recent record at home to Chelsea, winning three and drawing two of the last five meetings in North London. However, Tottenham and Chelsea matches are traditionally close encounters and this one is unlikely to be any different. Therefore, a draw could be the way to go at 12/5, with a 1-1 scoreline priced at 11/2. A Spurs win will see them go five points clear of Chelsea with a game in hand and they are available to record a 2-1 win at 8/1, while Chelsea are priced at 17/2 to win by the same score.
Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor, Rafael van der Vaart and Jermaine Defoe are all priced at 6/1 to be the First Goalscorer, while the club’s match winner against Sunderland, Roman Pavlyuchenko, who also scored the opener in the corresponding fixture last season, can be backed at 7/1. Didier Drogba is also priced at 6/1 to opent he scoring, while Daniel Sturridge, who opened the scoring against Wigan last Saturday, is available at 13/2 to score first. Providing he starts Frank Lampard may be a tempting bet at 8/1 to grab the game’s first goal. It is worth nothing that if a penalty is scored in this match Paddy Power will refund all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles.
