Man City v Bayern Munich: Betting Tips

Manchester City v Bayern Munich

Champions League, Group A

Kick off: Wednesday 7.45pm. Live on ITV

The odds are stacked against City tonight as they aim to qualify for the knock-out stages at the first time of asking. To do so they must defeat Bayern and hop that Napoli fail to win in Villarreal.

You can have 5/2 (Bet365) that things work out in City’s favour but remember that Villarreal are pointless so far in Group A. For that bet to land you’d need Villarreal to win or draw, on the ‘Double Chance’ bet their 7/6 at Unibet and that might be a better option just in case Mancini’s men don’t hold up their end of the bargain.

There’s nothing but pride to play for for the Germans, but since when has that ever stopped them? On paper 9/2 (Betfred, Paddy Power) looks overly generous but wait until you see the team news before. If they go with a relatively strong side then you could do worse than have small interest in the Bundesliga league leaders. They represent much better value than the 8/13 (Blue Sq, Betfred) on the home side, despite their imperious home form.

On the goalscorer front Bayern will be without Robben and Kroos and Mario Gomez is expected to be replaced by Olic, that means Muller (4/1 SkyBet) and Ribery (5/1 William Hill) could be their most likely source of goals. If Dzeko starts for City then I fancy him to notch against a side that he’s played against plenty of times. He’s looked very impressive in recent weeks represents decent value at 11/8 (Betfred) to score in the 90 minutes.

The bookies seem to be anticipating goals in this one and have priced over 2.5 at 4/6 (Boylesports, SkyBet). That looks a solid bet with so many attacking options on the field.
