FEB 21: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TIPS
AT the weekend I remember asking a punter if he’d risk a penny on Chelsea to beat Birmingham.
The answer was no and he was proved correct as they struggled to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup.
I wonder if he’d keep a straight face if I asked him the same question about tonight’s Champions League ties against Napoli.
The Blues go into the first leg in Italy without a win in four matches and with serious questions being asked of boss Andre Villas-Boas.
He might need a Champions League trophy to save his skin but I fear a last-16 KO.
It will be a massive test for Chelsea against an outfit who looked classy in the group stages as they knocked out Man City and haven’t lost a European tie at home since 1994.
Napoli haven’t conceded a goal in three Serie A outings and have a top striker in the shape of Edinson Cavani, who netted a double at Fiorentina on Friday night and bagged his side’s three goalsin two games against Man City.
The Uruguayan is quality and could give the likes of David Ruiz nightmares. Back him to score first at 11-2 with Paddy Power and take Napoli at 7-5 with William to take a lead to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea look completely out of sorts and are 23-10 with BetVictor.
In tonight’s other game Real Madrid look banker material at 4-9 with the likes of William Hill and Paddy Power away to CSKA Moscow.
I successfully gambled them at -3 at the weekend and will be looking at the handicaps again for a bit of value. You can have Real -1 at 13-10 with Blue Square and Stan James and 5-4 at Coral HT/FT. Prolific Cristiano Ronaldo is 11-4 at Ladbrokes to break the deadlock on the plastic pitch.
It will of course be freezing in Moscow, a city where Real have a poor record winning just two out of nine, but Jose Mourinho’s men aren’t as brittle as past sides and don’t lead Barcelona by 10 points in La Liga for nothing.
CSKA don’t score enough goals and qualified despite losing home ties to Inter Milan and Lille.
