Chelsea v Valencia Odds: Champions League Qualifying Special

Chelsea play Valencia tonight at Stamford Bridge in a pivotal Champions League group stage clash. The Blues must win or hold the La Liga side to a goalless draw in order to book their place in the knockout stages. Chelsea have been disappointing in the competition this year but a win tonight would be the perfect ingredient to kick-start their season and ease the pressure on under-fire manager Andre Villas-Boas. They have been installed as the odds-on 8/11 favourites to win the match and thus qualify for the last 16, while Valencia can be backed at 7/2. Meanwhile, a draw is available at 11/4. Furthermore, Ladbrokes will refund losing first goalscorer and correct score bets on the Chelsea vs Valencia match if the Blues fail to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

Chelsea have their fate in their own hands as they aim to reach the knockout stages for the ninth consecutive year. Both Chelsea and Valencia are glued on eight points each in Group E, one point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen who have already qualified. Chelsea have been very inconsistent this season and are certainly not the dominant European outfit they were a few years ago. However, they have a good record against Spanish opposition at Stamford Bridge, having won seven out of 12 meetings, with just the one defeat.

Chelsea’s defence has been anything but rock solid this season which makes a Valencia goal more than likely at some point during the 90 minutes. Although they will be buoyed from their confidence boosting victory at Newcastle last weekend and we think they will just about do enough tonight to ensure their passage through to the next round. The Blues are priced at 7/1 to edge the match 2-1 and 6/1 to win 1-0, while Valencia are available at 12/1 to win 2-1 and also 12/1 to come away with a 1-0 win. A 1-1 draw may be a good bet at 6/2, especially considering that two of the last five meetings between the sides have ended in this way, and the fact that Valencia have drawn nine of their 14 matches in England.

Didier Drogba ias the 9/2 favourite to be the First Goalscorer tonight. Fernando Torres is also priced at 9/2 but could be a risky bet as he rarely starts matches these days, which means at 5/1 Daniel Sturridge could be the way to go. Frank Lampard can be backed at 6/1 to open the scoring while the in-form Juan Manuel Mata is available at 7/1. Valencia’s Roberto Soldado has been handed odds of 6/1, while Aritz Aduriz and Jonas Goncalves are both available at 8/1.Whatever happens it will certainly be a nervy night at the Bridge.
