Blackpool v West Ham Championship Betting Odds
West Ham will have the chance to keep hold of top spot in the Championship on Tuesday when they travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Ian Holloway’s Blackpool.
The Hammers missed the opportunity to open up clear air between themselves and second placed Southampton on Tuesday, with Jos Hooiveld late equaliser for the Saints keeping the gap between the pair at just one point.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce was left furious after his side had what he felt were two certain penalties turned down after referee Lee Probert had already awarded the home side a spot kick after Billy Sharp’s foul on Mark Noble.
There was further refereeing controversy as Probert sent off West Ham midfielder Matt Taylor sent off for shoving Sharp after just 17 minutes, the second time the Hammers have had to play the majority of a game with ten men in as many weeks.
Millwall were the visitors to Upton Park two weeks ago, and while West Ham were able to record what Allerdyce described as their ‘best performance’ under him since he took over as manager as they secured a 2-1 win, they had to do it without captain Kevin Noble, who was sent off for a reckless challenge after just eight minutes.
Now they go into their must-win game against promotion rivals Blackpool with two of their key players serving suspensions, while off the field tempestuous new signing Ravel Morrison landed himself in hot water with the authorities following an ill-advised message on Twitter which means he is unlikely to be anywhere near the first team for the near future.
Blackpool meanwhile head into the game on the back of an excellent run of form that has taken them well into the play-off positions, while the Tangerines will also have one eye on an automatic spot with Southampton just four points above them in the league table.
Holloway’s side suffered a 4-0 defeat when the two sides met earlier in the season at Upton Park, and the former Premier League outfit will look to avenge that defeat on Tuesday.
Matt Phillips is Holloway’s only injury worry going into the game, with the winger still stuggling with a hamstring complaint.
Nicky Maynard made his debut against Southampton and is likely to feature again, while Guy Demel is back in training but is unlikely to make it back to action any time soon following a leghtny lay off with a thigh injury. John Carew and Papa Bouba Diop remain the Hammers only other absentees through injury.
Match Winner
Blackpool’s recent form has seen them win six and draw four of their last ten games, while the Tangerines have only lost two at home all season, which explains why they are favourites with the bookies to secure all three points.
Ian Holloway’s side are 2.38 (11/8) with BoyleSports to emerge victorious while West Ham are priced at 3.30 (23/10) with Bet365 – who offer the draw at the same price.
Correct score
West Ham have shown themselves to be adept at grinding out results in recent weeks against tough opposition while perhaps not finding the net as often as they would like.
The 1-1 draw is the bookies favourite scoreline, with BetVictor quoting a price of 6.50 (11/2) on that happening.
With the home side in an excellent run of form a 2-1 win for Blackpool is temptingly paced at 9.00 (8/1) with Bet365 while a narrow 1-0 win for West Ham is 10.00 (9/1) with the same firm.
