Newcastle v Aston Villa 13:30

Newcastle are one of the best away teams in the league, but today they entertain Aston Villa at St James Park, and can take heart from the fact their guests only have three victories on the road so far. The Villains are down in twelfth at the moment, occupying the sort of position many expected the Geordies to be in, but Alan Pardew has built well on the excellent work of Chris Hughton, and his side now have a realistic chance of a European spot.

Newcastle could give a debut to Papiss Cisse alongside Demba Ba in Sunday’s match after both players returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, but Yohan Cabaye serves the second of a three-match ban. Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor is again a major fitness doubt, while Marc Albrighton remains sidelined and James Collins is not ready to return from a calf problem. A lot of attention will be on the African stars, but the ever- dangerous Darren Bent is 6/1 with Bet365 to score first.

Chelsea v Manchester United 16:00

United will want to put the pressure on City, but the rivalry between themselves and Chelsea means this game will also provide a significant morale boost to whoever wins it. The home side have enough problems to fill a whole season of Jeremy Kyle, but the players on the pitch don’t have any excuses and will want to give their manager, and the fans, a big boost. Neither side is in truly top form, but United have shown signs they can raise their game in recent weeks and Chelsea need to match their intensity today.

John Terry will miss the match with a knee problem, so Gary Cahill is likely to make his debut for the club in a reshuffled defence also missing the suspended Ashley Cole. For United Anders Lindegaard faces six weeks out, but Tom Cleverley is available for the first time since October, while Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney and Nani are also fit. Betfred offer 11/1 on a 2-1 away win, and you’d not feel confident putting your mortgage on Chelsea, however much their team cost to assemble.
