Arsenal v Tottenham Premier League Betting Odds
Arsenal will have the chance to prove their season is far from over after a desperate run of results when they come up against north London rivals Tottenham.
The Gunners have seen their search to end their trophy-less run that stretches back to their 2005 F.A Cup win over Manchester United fail once more as they exited the Champions League and the F.A Cup within the space of a week.
The 4-0 defeat at the hands of A.C Milan, their heaviest ever European defeat, was a real low point for Arsenal while their F.A Cup exit against Sunderland compounded a terrible week for the Gunners.
Now they only have a top four finish to aim for as they look to extend their immaculate qualification record for the Champions League under Arsene Wenger, a goal which must be achieved if the Frenchman is to resist calls for his head much longer.
They go up against a Tottenham side fresh off the back of arguably their finest performance of the season, with high-flying Newcastle on the receiving end of a 5-0 thrashing at White Hart Lane.
Spurs sit in third place ten points above Arsenal, who made their way into the top four for the first time with victory over Sunderland in the league eleven days ago.
A win over their fierce rivals would not only do wonders for their confidence ahead of the final 13 games of the season but would open up the possibility of the Gunners catching Spurs and taking third place for themselves.
They’ll have to do it without Per Mertesacker however after the German defender seriously injured himself in the build-up to Sunderland’s opener in the league clash between the pair.
That means Johan Djourou will likely step into the side alongside Thomas Vermaelen at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, while Kieran Gibbs, who played in Milan but missed the F.A Cup game against Sunderland should play after Francis Coquelin pulled up at the Stadium of Light.
Tottenham meanwhile will once more put the thought of manager Harry Redknapp departing to take up the England job once more as they look to repeat their victory against Arsenal earlier in the season.
They may be without key players for the game at the Emirates Stadium however, with Emmanuel Adebayor and Rafael Van der Vaart struggling although both remain confident they will start, while Luka Modric missed the 0-0 F.A Cup draw with Stevenage over the weekend with the flu and may miss out on Sunday.
Match Winner
Both sides will be desperate to get one over on each other and with so much at stake in terms of league positions for both teams, the bookmakers rightly have the game as a tough one to call.
Despite their recent damaging results the home side are still favourites at 2.50 (6/4) with BlueSQ, while Tottenham are the slight underdogs at 2.90 (19/10) with StanJames to go get a result at the Emirates Stadium for only the second time since Arsenal made the move from Highbury.
The draw is 3.50 (5/2) with Bet365.
First Goalscorer
Robin Van Persie leads the way in the race to be crowned the Premier League’s top goalscorer this season with 22 so far, and the Dutchman is favourite to open the scoring on Sunday as well.
He’s 6.00 (5/1) with BetVictor while former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor trails slightly behind at 7.00 (6/1) with the same bookmaker.
Rafael Van der Vaart scored in the 2010 game that marked Tottenham’s first ever win at the Emirates last season, and the former Real Madrid man is 9.00 (8/1) with BetFred, although his recent injury worries make him a doubt for the game.
Arsenal’s next highest scorers, Mikel Arteta and Gervinho, who have four apiece this season, are 17.00 (16/1) and 10.00 (9/1) respectively with BoyleSports.
