Ajax v Manchester United Europa League betting odds

Manchester United begin their Europa League campaign this week as they travel to face Ajax in the last 32.

It is not the European adventure United had planned for this season of course, but they are in the Europa League to win it.

The dust has settled on their exit from the Champions League too. They have moved on and they can now come to terms with facing Ajax.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that they are taking it very seriously too. Every piece of silverware is valuable and although the Premier League title is their priority, they will be keen to win the Europa League.

The United boss said as much this week, saying: “I’m definitely treating it seriously.”

“The great thing about Thursday is we don’t have a game next Saturday so I can play my strongest team and will play my strongest team.”

“The thing is to look forward to it. It’s still European football and still a good standard.”

Ferguson then hinted to the fact that United have never met Ajax in a European tournament before, something which makes Thursday’s game extra special.

Ajax will certainly be excited about hosting the Premier League Champions and it should be an excellent atmosphere.

As for the Dutch club, they find themselves 6th in the Dutch Eredivisie at the moment, so they are not having things their own way at the moment.

In fact, they have lost two of their last four games, highlighting their inconsistent form this season.

They will hope a good performance against Manchester United can boost their season though. That will be their aim from 6pm on Thursday evening.

Match winner

Despite Ajax’s home advantage, it is Manchester United that are the favourites to win this one. They are 1.83 (5/6) with BoyleSports to win their first ever Europa League contest.

The home side are then 4.33 (10/3) with Coralto win this game and take an advantage to Old Trafford for the second-leg. The draw is then 3.50 (5/2) with BetFred.

Correct score

Looking at the correct score market, a narrow Manchester United win seems popular. For example, a 2-1 away win is available at 8.00 (7/1) with StanJames.

Then, you can back a more convincing United win at better value with 3-0 to Ferguson’s men available at 15.00 (14/1) with Bet365.

An 1-0 Ajax win is then available at 13.00 (12/1), while a 0-0 draw can be backed at 13.00 (12/1) with Ladbrokes.

First goalscorer

When it comes to the first goalscorer market, there is only one man to look out for – Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United striker is the 4.50 (7/2) favourite with StanJames to score first.

Other candidates as far as United are concerned include Javier Hernandez who is available at 6.0o (5/1) with BoyleSports, while Danny Welbeck is the same odds with the same bookie.

For Ajax, the best chance of scoring first is Mounir El Hamdaoui who can be backed at 13/2 to score first with Paddy Power.

Then, a good outside bet is Ryan Giggs, available at 17.00 (16/1) with BetVictor to score first.
