AC Milan v Arsenal Champions League betting odds
One of the most exciting fixtures of the last 16 puts AC Milan up against Arsenal, with the first leg at the San Siro.
The Gunners became the first English team to beat the Italian side on home soil when two late goals from Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor saw them to victory in 2008. Although both of those players have since moved on, there are still a number of players from that night who still remain with both clubs.
In an interesting side story, it will also be another opportunity for Arsenal’s latest bright young thing, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to show the world what he is all about on arguably the biggest stage of all.
Furthermore, he could well enhance his England Euro 2012 credentials with a convincing performance.
In terms of the form of the two sides, it would appear to be Arsenal who go into the game with the upper hand. A bright start to 2012 that has included a 7-1 win over Blackburn is something of a contrast to the fortunes of Milan who are on the verge of crashing out of the Copa Italia after their first leg 2-1 defeat to Juventus.
AC Milan will be boosted by the return of some of their key players from injury, with goalkeeper Christian Abbiati, Alexandre Pato and Alessandro Nesta all returning to training.
Arsenal, meanwhile, should welcome back Bacary Sagna and Keiran Gibbs to their defence but will be without Per Mertesacker as well as long-term injury victims Jack Wilshere, Andre Santos, and Abou Diaby.
Match Odds
Bookmakers actually have Milan as the favourites for the first leg, with home advantage clearly a key factor. They are available at evens.
Arsenal will be hoping to upset the bookies by getting an impressive away win to take back to the Emirates. Bet365 are offering 3.75 (11/4) for them to do that.
However, if Arsene Wenger was being brutally honest, he probably would take a draw from the first leg, with SkyBet pricing that at 3.40 (12/5).
First Goal Scorer
With Alexandre Pato back in the fold, he will undoubtedly be one of the favourites to score first, and is priced at 6.00 (5/1) with BoyleSports.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was part of the Barcelona side that beat Arsenal at the Emirates a couple of seasons ago – he is 5.00 (4/1) to score first with SportingBet.
Robin Van Persie has been in imperious goal scoring form all season for the Gunners and will be among the favourites to opening the scoring here. He is available at 6.00 (5/1) with SkyBet.
Recommended Bet
As has already been mentioned, a draw would certainly be a good result for Arsenal. If they can get themselves an away goal or two as well, then surely they will find themselves in the driving seat.
It would therefore be a tempting bet to back the 2-2 draw. A tenner would bring in a total return of £170 with BlueSQ if you backed that result at 17.00 (16/1).
